How does the luggage transport service work?

We think that travelling light is key to ensuring a really enjoyable and relaxing time. So put your camera, binoculars and bits and pieces in a day rucksack and leave all the heavy stuff to us.

Every morning we’ll pick up your bags containing anything which you don’t need for your day. By late afternoon, we’ll have them waiting for you at your next evening’s accommodation. If you’ve collected a few mementoes en route, we can usually pick up those too (antiques…the odd case of wine… we have had many requests in the past and always do our best to oblige!)

What do I have to carry on the guided and self guided walking holiday?

Your most important item is, of course, a pair of comfortable walking boots with ankle support and a sole that provides grip, as some of the terrain can be rugged at times. It can be a little cold – so you should bring some warm clothing.

And, just in case . . . a lightweight waterproof. We hope you won’t need it. Mostly we will be walking in dry weather, in warm sunshine, so casual, comfortable, summer clothes will generally suffice. A hat and sun protection cream is essential. A small rucksack for carrying lunch is also recommended and you might consider a walking stick, as some of the ground is a bit rough.

What about en route support – what if I have an accident or get lost?

All our documentation carries our telephone numbers. Throughout your holiday you can also contact us for advice or help by phone at anytime day or night.

Will anyone from your team meet me during my stay on a self guided holiday?

One of our guides will collect you from the Train Station or Airport and transfer you to your first nights’ accommodation. You will then have a Welcome Meeting to make sure you are happy with everything.

Will I be travelling in an organised group?

Yes, on our Guided Holidays.

How do we know which tour is the right level for us?

You will need to be reasonably fit, but we want our guests to enjoy rather than endure their holiday, so you do not need to be super-fit. All our walks and cycling routes are graded ‘easy’ to ‘moderate’ . Please see the individual tour information. Please call us if you need more advice!

I plan to travel on my own, can I go one of your self guided walking/cycling holidays?

We regularly take bookings from walkers who are single travellers, so you would be most welcome. Please note that a supplement is payable to cover accommodation/ taxi / luggage transfer on a ‘single occupancy’ basis and administration costs. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and for tour prices.

Are the walking holidays suitable for children?

We like to think that parents are the best judge of what their children will be happy with on holiday. This includes just how active and interested they might be in the particular activity you are interested in.

We’re not passing the buck. Just being realistic and we think you’ll respect us for that.

Can I bring my dog(s) with me?

Our guided walking holiday is the only trip that we will allow dogs.

What meals are provided?

We include a continental breakfast on all our holidays. Evening meals are included only where specified in the descriptions of the tours.

Can vegetarians be catered for?

Accommodating special dietary requirements is rarely a problem, if we know in advance. Please let us know and we will pass details on to the relevant accommodation providers.

Where evening meals are included in our prices, or where evening meals are available at the accommodation, vegetarian options are generally available as standard on the menu.

Can I extend my stay along the way, or add on extra nights at the beginning or end of my tour?

We would be delighted to organise extra nights subject to availability. Prices are available on request.

How far will I be walking/cycling?

All our walking/cycling tours are different, and some days there may be more miles to cover than others. Outline mileages are detailed in our tour descriptions.

Is it possible to skip a day’s walking altogether?

We are flexible in our approach because we want you to enjoy your break. We can generally accommodate special requests of this nature by arranging a specific taxi transfer or, on occasion, it may be possible for you to keep our driver company at the time of the luggage transfer. Please ask us at the time of booking.

Do I need to prepare for my walk?

If you have new boots for the occasion, best get them worn in before you come to avoid any discomfort during your walking tour. If you’ve chosen one of our longer tours and don’t walk regularly, it is probably a good idea to go for an energetic stroll or two in preparation.

How do I get back at the end of the tour?

We will provide an Airport or Train Station transfer.

Is my money safe?

In accordance with “The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992” all passengers booking with Catalan Adventures are fully protected for the initial deposit and subsequently for the balance of all monies paid to our company arising from cancellation or curtailment of your travel arrangements due to our insolvency. After this date, we reserve the right to treat the changes as rebooking and to apply cancellation charges.

What happens if I have to cancel?

Your attention to detail was very reassuring and we very much enjoyed the variety of both the walking & the accommodation, a surprise each day! This will be the first of many such holidays but a hard act to follow.

    • Most memorable? The unexpected; walks, scenery, accommodation & food. Different & varied every day… Steve has thought of everything & is willing to help out in any way possible. He met us personally on arrival and his welcome meeting was really useful. The walking route instructions made it impossible to get lost.

    • Really wonderful! It exceeded my expectations. Steve could not have been more helpful in coordinating and supporting us in this holiday. We loved the places we stayed, enjoyed the people and small towns. The food was excellent. The hikes we great. I felt like we really got to see the country and small communities.

    • A fantastic holiday, great break for us both as the time spend on the bikes meant the blackbery had to be packed away. The area is great for cycling, not too challenging for the more leisurely cyclist, but with enough lumps & bumps to get the heart rate going at times for those wanting a […]

    • Thanks for a brilliant week! The 6 day coast walk is an excellent choice for anyone who likes a mix of great walks (the coast to Cadaques & the last one over the ridge via castle & monastery were my favourites) in stunning scenery, with loads of interest en route- archaeology, charming medieval & seaside […]

    • Thanks again for a truly great holiday. We think its a wonderful format that you have created. It’s hard to believe that we did so much and saw so many places in just one week. It just wouldn’t be feasible, to try and do it yourselves.

    • This was a holiday to remember. A self guided walk offering better support and more value than the competition. The notes and directions left no room for argument and for a long standing couple in their sixties this was some achievement. The cliff top walks were stunningly beautiful to a degree that conquered vertigo but […]

The full-suspension mountain bikes (equipped with a Garmin GPS) were perfect for the terrain that we covered and your attention to detail on the directions, along with pictures at […]
